Food safety approval
European regulations governing the safety of materials and items coming into contact with foodstuffs are the responsibility of the DG-Sanco (Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection) within the European Commission. The suitability of materials that come into contact with food is governed by EC regulation no. 1935/2004.
This regulation applies to materials and items which, in their finished state, are intended to come into contact or which are in contact with foodstuffs or water that is intended for human consumption, and are designed for that purpose.
